Weekly thought from your buddies at iTAP:
"I'll just drink it out of the bottle."
While it is a matter of choice, those who put that beer in the bottle choose that it be released it into a glass/cup/shoe etc. Even the blandest of macro brews are supposed to be poured into something else...the action releases the taste and in the case of many Belgian or wheat beers completes the mix of the ingredients.
The Proper Glass: An Imperial Stout in a snifter, a double IPA in a tulip, a Belgian in a tall stem or chalice, a Hefeweizen in a tall pilsner...yes beer is more than just bound for a pint glass. It's a philosophy that we stick to here because it is what the brewers want and often times demand. The glassware is meant to enhance the taste of the beer by either insuring the proper head or funneling the scent to the nose. Sure pint glasses are proper for some beers but certainly not all which is why encourage you to drink as the brewer intended...from the proper glass.
While we do have many "keep the glass" nights (like us or join the International Tap House group on Facebook to hear about them) most nights the glassware is our property. We would appreciate keeping glasses on the table and bar and not in purses or pockets...it helps us keep the cost of beer down and helps us insure the next beer is poured at its best. Thanks!
